Water Street in winter can hold surprises. Although most Bay City dwellers don’t stroll leisurely outside when the snow's there to stay, a French artist did, snapping photos along the way.

Known for his recent Artificial Selves show at Studio 23, Pierrick Gaumé also started showing some of his Automorphoses there. What's an Automorphose photograph in Gaumé style? It looks like dynamic, energetic, abstract color flows. But look closer: tiny realistic details can tell you they're coming from the American street and the way it reflects on shiny car bodies before road salt dulls their finish. Buildings look as floppy as Dali's molten clocks, and their colors shine bright with snowlight reflecting on snow.
