The Bedroom Rapper EP by Midland, Michigan resident Seth Patrick A.KA. Ill Eaze stays true to real Midwest hip-hop—ALL rap and little hook. Just like his Midwestern counterparts Eminem, Twista, and Kanye, Patrick has also proven to be a very talented lyricist. I found his EP easy to listen to and not too long. In fact, he provides listeners with just enough with all of his songs around three minutes in length, with "Brimstone" being the longest at 4:14.
The Bedroom Rapper reminds me of Slim Shady and Eminem in his prime. It had playful tracks like "Handle with Eaze" in which he paints a picture with his words. True to any album format there has to be something for the ladies, and on "Be My Woman Tonight" the Bedroom Rapper tries to slow it down for the ladies with lines like:
See I'm staring
trying not to care and
I’m thinkin bout a future got nothing to do with marriage.
He later continues: "And imma jump in and swim / the girl got Prada and probably shark fins."
Seth ends with another ode to the ladies on "Cloudy-Chance of Rain," the only other track since "Goodbye Happy Life" that has a chorus/hook:
I'm Having fun but I still can't forget
the way you bit your lips, chippin your fingernail tips
I'm having fun but I still don't forget
Ms. suicide girl and all those tantrum fits.
I think the Bedroom Rapper is a talented lyricist with a very creative mind. This album did not follow the traditional format in this day where the hip-hop artist seems to be more concerned with dropping club bangers and party songs. This EP is more like a collage of things that go on inside of Seth Patrick’s mind, served straight with no chaser. There were only two songs on the entire album that had anything that resembled a hook/chorus. With the watered down lollipop rap that has replaced lyricism in our day, real hip-hop heads will appreciate the artistic side of this album.
