For thirty years, "Our Front Porch" has been recording traditional music concerts in Central and Northern Michigan and airing them on CMU Public Radio. On Friday, April 23 at 8 p.m., the final concert in this year's series will be held at Central Michigan University's Plachta Auditorium. Taking the stage that night will be singer-songwriter Jill Andrews and Cadillac Sky.
Jill Andrews is perhaps best known for co-founding the alternative-country band the everybodyfields. However, since their break-up, she has gone out on her own, releasing a self-titled solo EP with six new original songs. Her sound is described as being signature alt-country, roots-rock. According to the press release for the event, "Andrews plays and sings soulful songs with lonesome melodies and haunting lyrics."
Cadillac Sky, a five-piece band from Texas comprised of Matt Menefee, Bryan Simpson, David Mayfield, Ross Holmes, and Andy "Panda" Moritz, uses traditional instruments, but the band takes its music in a new direction. Their third full-length album,
Letters in the Deep, will be released June 8. The audience can expect a high-energy performance of bluegrass music with an experimental twist.
"Our Front Porch" with Jill Andrews and Cadillac Sky is Friday, April 23 at 8 p.m. at CMU's Plachta Auditorium. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students. They can be purchased at the CMU Box Office or by calling 1-888-268-0111. "Our Front Porch" is hosted by John Sheffler and airs at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoons. In the central counties, tune into WCMU 89.5 or in the tri-cities and thumb, tune into WUCX 90.1.
