Every summer, libraries in Mid-Michigan offer up a boatload of activities to keep everyone reading and using their imaginations. This summer, in honor of the Tall Ships Festival, Bay County Libraries present their water-themed reading program. Activities geared for children, teens, and adults have been scheduled from June to early August at the Wirt Library, Sage Branch Library, Auburn Area Library, and Pinconning Library.

Beginning this week through July 31, children from toddlers to sixth graders can sign up to log their reading and listening selections to earn prizes. Parents can also register them for the special programs below. With animals, magic, humor, and music, there is likely something to excite any child.

Brian Hayes & Ulysses, the Frisbee Dog will demonstrate what man, canine, and flying disk can do. Hayes is the founder of The Flying Aces, a professional Frisbee dog show that delights audiences of all ages. It's educational too, as he tells the history of the Frisbee and gives insights into dog psychology.Typically their shows end with a contest where teams of two audience members compete for autographed Flying Aces Frisbees.

Classroom Critters presents Turtle Mania, a show featuring turtles from around the world.

Scheer Genius: Aqua-Kadabra Magic Funfest, combining the fun of water and magic, is sure to make a splash with viewers.

The Amazing Clark puppet show will have people guessing what's to happen next.

Rick Kelley's interactive beach party offers up sing-alongs, dance-alongs, beach balls, and even a hula hoop and limbo contest. Adding to the fun are Kelley's original songs that promote reading.

The Gratitude Steel Band, a Caribbean steel drum band, performs tropical, Reggae and gospel music.

Also scheduled throughout the summer are G and PG rated movies, including such favorites as Planet 51, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, The Spiderwick Chronicles, Where the Wild Things Are, Madagascar 2, and Hannah Montana. Admission and snacks will be provided free for children and caregivers. All children under 7 must be accompanied by a caregiver.

For teens and adults workshops on henna tattoos, macrame jewelry, water color painting on silk, and wire wrap jewelry are scheduled. Registration is required.
